About Me

Louise - The Breastfeeding Support Consultancy

Hello, I’m Louise, and I’m the founder of The Breastfeeding Support Consultancy. I have an academic background in law and healthcare, with a BA (Hons) Law, LLM in judicial law, and a BSc in Healthcare Sciences. Alongside this, I am a qualified breastfeeding counsellor, doula and peer supporter, and hold an NCFE Level 2 Award in Neuroscience in Early Years. I am fully insured and hold an enhanced DBS certificate.

Experience, Knowledge and Personal Understanding

For more than ten years, I have supported breastfeeding families through organisations including the NHS, Sure Start Centres and community charities. During this time, I have helped parents navigate breastfeeding and infant feeding challenges while also supporting them through key life transitions such as returning to work after maternity leave.

Alongside my professional experience, I also understand the challenges on a personal level. When I returned to work after my daughter was born, I was working full time in a large legal firm but due to the company having no appropriate facilities, I was left with no option but to express my breastmilk in the staff toilets or in my car during my lunchbreak.

Nearly 20 years after I returned to work, breastfeeding parents are still struggling with a lack of breastfeeding support when they return.

These experiences drive my passion and commitment to supporting parents and encouraging workplaces to create more supportive environments.

The Breastfeeding Support Consultancy was founded from both my professional expertise and my own personal experience of returning to work while breastfeeding. Having experienced the challenges firsthand, I understand how difficult it can be to balance breastfeeding alongside work and family life. Combining lived experience with professional knowledge allows me to support both parents and workplaces in a practical, compassionate and realistic way, helping to bridge the gap between policy, workplace culture and real-life experience.

Beyond the Consultancy

Alongside my business, I volunteer as a breastfeeding peer supporter for a local charity. I sit on a Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) advisory group which advises how policing and support for women and girls can be improved and I am also a magistrate in the criminal and family court.

Outside of my professional work, I enjoy spending time with my three children and two dogs, as well as going on long walks and cycling. I’m a big fan of fantasy and science fiction, especially Harry Potter, The Lord of the Rings trilogy, and Doctor Who (particularly the David Tennant era). When I do find the time to relax, I enjoy reading historical and classic novels.

Thank you for taking the time to learn a little more about me and the passion behind The Breastfeeding Support Consultancy.
